PhD Defense of Edith Heiter
On Friday the 28th of August our colleague Edith Heiter defended her PhD “Navigating Imperfect Representation: Evaluating, Interpreting, and Refining Low-Dimensional Embeddings” under the supervision of Jefrey Lijffit and Tijl De Bie.

Edith joined the AIDA Group in October 2020, and has been supported by a fundamental research fellowship from the FWO since 2021. Throughout her PhD she worked on developing and evaluating methods to further the quality and understanding of low-dimensional embeddings of high dimensional data. Edith’s research resulted in the publication of four peer reviewed papers, with one survey paper on explanation methods for low-dimensional embeddings just before submission. Read her thesis here.
